DPI and In-Game Sensitivity: Fix One Baseline, Then Test

DPI controls how many counts the mouse outputs per inch, while in-game sensitivity converts those counts into camera movement. Together they affect feel, but troubleshooting works better when only one variable changes at a time.

Choose a DPI you can keep

There is no magic DPI. Pick one that is convenient on the desktop and in game, then keep it stable. Whether it is 800 or 1000 matters less than knowing which value you are actually using.

If the mouse has a DPI button, confirm it was not bumped before a training session. Many sudden feel changes turn out to be an accidental DPI switch.

Windows, games and browser training

Native FPS games and web pages use different input environments, so a regular browser cannot guarantee the exact hardware mouse counts received by a game. AimTrainer requests the browser’s unaccelerated pointer-lock input when available, but results still depend on the browser and operating system.

DPI is used to display cm/360°. FOV and the 16:9 or 4:3 display mode affect projection only, never mouse rotation.

Test one input setup

  • Fix DPI, target size and duration.
  • Play three Three-Target Flick rounds and note accuracy and overshoot.
  • Play three Micro Adjustment rounds and note distant shake and rushed shots.
  • Change training sensitivity by one small step, then repeat the same block.

When to stop adjusting

If the data only moves within normal round-to-round noise, do not chase a perfect number. A setup that stays controllable when fresh, warmed up and on another day is more useful than one exceptional fast round.
